![]() Meg is a teacher, Jo a writer, Beth a seamstress and Amy, the youngest, isn't anything yet-but she wants to be a dancer. And there's a really cute family friend, a boy named Lorie, who figures into the story. Their mother is their moral compass, their dad is away at war. Still, some of the things in this new book, you kept the same. It seems like the kind of property that no matter how many times it's revisited, it's the same. Basically, Little Women is considered historical fiction, but as a Black woman, I have been excluded from that narrative. I will say that I, like a lot of people my age, was very in love with the 1994 film adaptation, so if there's any similarity, I would expect it to be closer to a couple of elements from that film. It does not matter what a group of white girls was doing that has no bearing on it. ![]() ![]() I am writing a story about four Black girls in 1863. ![]() As I told the editor, it would not matter. It can be argued that no more accessible and comprehensive collection of the myths and legends of the western world exists than this work. Richard, Professor of History at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, has praised “Bulfinch’s Mythology” as “one of the most popular books ever published in the United States and the standard work on classical mythology for nearly a century.” Consisting of prose retellings from three eras, “Bulfinch’s Mythology” relates the myths and legends of ancient Rome and Greece, the English tales of King Arthur, and the romances of the Middle Ages. American author and banker Thomas Bulfinch is best known for his three separate works on mythology, “The Age of Fable, or Stories of Gods and Heroes”, “The Age of Chivalry, or Legends of King Arthur”, and “Legends of Charlemagne, or Romance of the Middle Ages” collectively entitled “Bulfinch’s Mythology,” which was first gathered together in one volume and published after his death in 1867. ![]() ![]() "Please, I'm sorry but we only have cars, no.what was it.an airship?" asked the car seller, who was obviously not in the market of selling airships, which was a short-sighted decision from the customer's point of view. One of Patricia’s achievements has been in writing book series. Some of her works have even achieved the bestseller number one spot in USA. Patricia began writing urban fantasy books when her editor asked her to and the first work in this category made it to the bestseller list. Some examples include Dragon Bones and Dragon Blood, Raven’s Shadow and Raven’s Strike. These were two different books that shared the same world as well as characters although they had complete distinct storylines. She later began writing dual and multiple-book stories. The second book (Steal the Dragon) did much better and gathered positive reviews. Her first novel (called Masques) was published in 1993 although the sales were poor compared to later works. ![]() Patricia began her writing career over two decades ago in early 1990. ![]() She has also received various accolades for her work as well as several bestseller spots. A sense of menace permeates this book, as accidents, misfortune and death amass from one story to the next. She casts startling, jagged turns of phrase – “The permanence of his absence is a noise she hears when she listens to how quiet” (sic) – and coaxes stories from an accumulation of details. Schutt, a part-time Mainer who was a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in fiction, might well be called a story whisperer. ![]() ![]() What they all have in common is a visceral, unsettling clarity that makes them stick. Several of the stories are miniatures, almost vignettes. In one sense, the book is indeed very Hollywood – dramatic, visual, with special effects, and characters whose names, such as Arden Fawn, Lolly Hedge and Stetson Deminthe, are nothing if not theatrical. At 144 pages, it includes 10 short stories, plus the novella of the book’s title. Christine Schutt’s “Pure Hollywood: And Other Stories” is a wisp of a book, as rich as it is thin. ![]() ![]() Part One.: Chapter 7: An Unknown Species of Whale Part One.: Chapter 3: I Form My Resolution Readers should note that "Twenty Thousand Leagues" is not the depth to which the Nautilus dives - the ocean is not that deep - but describes the distance traveled under the surface of the ocean as the ship and crew adventure around the globe. While there were submarines in existence when the book was written, they were primitive affairs and it took a feat of imagination for the writer to produce his vision of what an underwater craft would look like in the future. In particular, the description of the Nautilus is rather prophetic and a fitting description for modern submarines. ![]() ![]() This great adventure story is notable for being more scientifically accurate than some of Verne's other novels.
